Motor Starting Applications
These are auto transformers and reactors used in systems to restrain the start up current and allow a smooth start up in asynchronous motors of high power.
1.) Auto Transformers
They are manufactured in dry or oil immersed types. Taps can be added upon request. It provides a capacity to transmit a high current within a short time. Therefore thermal and dynamic forces are dwelt on in design. If the auto transformer is to be initially used as a reactor, they are designed with air gapped cores. Saturation risk in the core is taken into account in design.
2.) Serial Connected Reactors
They are manufactured in dry or oil immersed types. Taps can be added upon request. It provides a capacity to transmit a high current within a short time. Therefore thermal and dynamic forces are dwelt on in design. They are designed with air gapped cores. Saturation risk in the core is taken into account in design.
